Joyal Watkins Jr. has a keen eye for detail
In his 42 years as an interior designer, Joyal Watkins Jr. has distinguished himself as a superior conceptual designer and color coordinator with a keen eye for detail.
Specializing in residential and commercial interior design, Watkins is president of J.W. Designs, Inc. in Chicago. His clients live all over the world. His work has ranged from studio apartments to a 73-room house and included a private jet, several yachts and a restored ballroom.
Born and raised in Memphis, Tenn., Watkins began working at his grandfather’s upholstery shop as a young boy. It was there that he began to develop an eye for pattern match precision and detail.
He began his career with Tom Wells Interiors in Memphis while still in school. Watkins earned his associate degree from Harrington Institute of Interior Design (now Harrington College).
He has served as president of the Illinois Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), is NCIDQ qualified and has won many awards from publications and organizations for his design accomplishments.

Watkins’ work has been featured locally and nationally in residential showcases, industry publications and in several major motion pictures. Many articles on interior design have quoted him over the years. He has also participated in a number of home showcase events for charity as well as general art celebrations over the years.
The veteran interior designer’s primary styles are Art Deco, Contemporary, French, Traditional, Transitional and Urban Loft.

He specializes in apartment design, arts and antiques, bathroom design, budget design, color consulting, commercial design, event design, furniture design, historic preservation, home staging, home theatre design, interior design, kitchen design, landscape design, luxury design, new construction, product purchasing, remodeling, residential design and restaurant design.
Watkins says every one of his clients receives his full attention as that is the only way he knows how to work.
