New Jersey Designer Sees Projects as Sum of Their Parts
David Schaf sees interior design as a sum of its parts. It isn't enough, he says, to choose a pretty pillow or a piece of art – a designer has to capture the client's unique personality and convey the feeling he or she intends a room to exude.
Schaf, an interior designer, is principal of David Schaf Interiors, which he founded in 1992 in Allenhurst, N.J. The firm offers complete interior design and consulting services from initial concepts through implementation.
Each project, no matter how large or small, is approached in a highly personal way, by creating elegant and inviting interiors whose atmospheres are tailored to reflect the unique personality of each individual client.
Identifying each individual client's needs, creating appropriate solutions, maintaining project schedules, holding true to budgets, and responsiveness are among some of the attributes that contribute to each project's success and maintain lasting client relationships, according to Schaf.
He prides himself on his artistic insight and refined listening skills, which give him an ability to fuse each clients personal style and ideas with his comprehensive and innovative approach to design make for a one-of-a-kind experience and bring his clients' visions into fruition.
Schaf's projects include private residences, hotels, casinos in the United States and Mexico, law firms, financial institutions, and insurance companies.
In addition to serving as a designer, Schaf can act as a project manager and construction administrator. He is experienced in conceptual and schematic design, design development, programming, space plans and ceiling concepts, partition plans and elevations, FF&E sourcing and selection, custom furniture and lighting design and detailing, hand-sketching, reviewing and red-lining CD's and bid sets, RFI’s, creating and presenting FF&E presentation boards, creating and assembling specification books and schedules, bid packages, signage and branding, mentoring and managing Junior staff, site surveys, reviewing shop drawing submittals, attending progress meetings and site visits, coordinating with photographers and renderers, directing and inspecting on-site installations, and managing clients, vendors, and contractors.
He received a bachelor's degree in interior design from Kean College of New Jersey. Prior to founding his own company, Schaf worked for major architecture and interior design firms in New York and New Jersey.
