For more than 30 years, Sue Firestone has cultivated her personal passion for design, operating a leading international interior design firm and assembling a portfolio that includes the world's premier five-and six-star hotel brands, high-end boutique hotel proprietors and luxury estate-homeowners. As chairman and founder of sfa design, Sue has led the firm to complete acclaimed hospitality and luxury residential projects in some of the most fascinating destinations throughout Europe, Asia, U.A.E, Mexico and the United States, providing services for acclaimed hotel operators such as Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, Waldorf=Astoria Collection, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, Abu Dhabi National Hotels, JW Marriott and Walt Disney Parks & Resorts.

Sues international fervor for design was born in the 1970s, when she sailed around the world with a group of her teenage peers. The myriad of cultures absorbed by her fresh, interested eyes left Sue with a deep appreciation for the uniqueness and impact of a given space. Her passion for all things aesthetic led Sue to accept a position at Design 1, a Los Angeles-based design firm in1976. In just four years with Design 1, Sue rose from designer to president. During her two decades directing the company, Sue led Design 1 to become the sixth largest design firm in the United States with offices in Hong Kong and Paris.

In 1996 Sue turned her focus toward creating a boutique-style firm that would employ a cherry-picked team of diverse designers to originate her couture concept for interior design. The result was sfa design, a Santa Barbara-based global design firm. With 35+ design experts on staff, Sue carefully crafted sfa to be large enough to execute projects of grand scale, but boutique enough to truly provide the personal attention required of each client.

On each project, Sue oversees the creative process, from concept to completion. From luxury yachts to tropical resorts, urban boutiques to sheltered estates, Sue maintains a passion for cutting-edge design that has won her more than two dozen awards, including the prestigious Platinum Circle Award. Alongside her team of senior principals and directors, Sue has secured sfa design a place on Robb Reports Top 40 Best Designers in the World, a mark of continual growth and an elite, international client list.
